Winter dreams in Norway
James Scott, Sales Manager UK & Ireland
My journey onboard the beautiful HANSEATIC spirit began in Hamburg, and from the moment I stepped on board, there was a real sense of excitement. The ship had a relaxed yet elegant and comfortable feel, and I quickly settled in as we set sail and headed north towards Norway.
Our first stop was Bergen, a city full of charm and character. I joined a guided tour through the historic Bryggen area, learning about the city’s Hanseatic roots and wandering past the colourful wooden houses that line the old harbour. Afterwards, we took the cable car up to Mount Fløyen, where we were treated to incredible views over the city and surrounding fjords, despite the cold, it was a real highlight.
In Ålesund, we decided to try something a bit different and went kayaking through the harbour. It started snowing while we were out on the water, which only made the experience more special. The snow fell quietly as we paddled past the Art Nouveau buildings, it was almost surreal. Finishing off the experience with a brilliant group photo in front of the ship.
Cruising around Torghatten was another memorable experience. The sea was calm and the weather held, so we spent a good part of the day out on deck, taking in the view of the mountain with its famous hole. That afternoon, we crossed the Arctic Circle, and the crew made it an incredible occasion with music, entertainment, and plenty of good cheer.
We wrapped up our voyage in Tromsø, and sailing into the snowy port was breathtaking. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks and a quiet stillness in the air, it felt like arriving into a winter postcard. It was the perfect end to a trip filled with unique experiences, stunning scenery, and a sense of adventure.
